Major Photon Server Updates in 2020
UPDATE #2: Some information on v5 delay: right now, multiple regions of our public Photon Cloud are running on Photon Server v5 and everything runs stable and fine, closely monitored by our 24/7 operations team. There are some smaller issues we are working on before rolling v5 out to all our Photon Cloud regions. Once this is finished, we’ll make v5 finally available to the public. We apologize for the wait.
UPDATE #1: Due to an unforeseen event we had to re-allocate staff. As a result Photon Server’s v5 release is delayed to mid February. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Photon Server has been rock solid for years and we keep enhancing it with new features. We are getting ready to rollout major updates in 2020.
Photon Server, Version 5 (Release Candidate) in January 2020:
- New kernel (that will power win/linux/mac in v6)
- Enhanced custom authentication, matchmaking and new room creation methods
- State of the art Security: TCP/TLS support, UDP datagram encryption and Open SSL (TLS 1.3 support)
- New serialization for improved performance
The new kernel features .NET Core support and cross-platform asynchronous I/O. Our next leap ahead will be Version 6 that will run on Windows/Linux and is planned to be released in mid 2020.
